Former State Park Director Says Criticism
Not Warranted Over Beer Party
Former Kentucky Dam Village state park director Brian Roy is
defending his former employees from criticism over the February beer
party that led to indictments against Lyon County Attorney Lindell Choat
and his wife Mary Jane. Parks Commissioner George Ward said that as part
of their initial investigation after learning of the allegations last
week, his office asked for all park ranger activity logs at Kentucky Dam
for February 13th and 14th, but were told the rangers hadn't kept logs
for nine years - even though park policy required them. Roy, who was
director of Kentucky Dam State park at the time but out of town on
vacation, has since been fired by the Fletcher administration. The
park's business manager, Kevin Branham, has been placed on special
investigative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal probe
Lyon County Attorney Lindell Choat and his wife, Mary Jane Choat,
were indicted in connection with the party attended by about 80
teenagers in February. The couple allegedly provided a keg of beer and
did not supervise who was drinking. Lindell Choat is also accused of
attempting to steer authorities away from investigating the allegation.
