BRYANT LAW CENTER, PSC
What to do if you are involved in an auto accident
Stop immediately.
If you are driving a vehicle that is involved in an accident, you must
stop at the accident scene…IT’S THE LAW! Turn on your hazard lights. Try
to remain calm.
Call the police so an official
accident report can be filed. Allow the police to investigate the
accident. Leave the accident only after the police have completed their
investigation or they have told you it is ok to leave.
Call medical help. Check for
injuries. If someone is injured, call for an ambulance. Don’t try to
move someone if they are hurt.
Get information. Get the names,
addresses and phone numbers of witnesses; find out the best way to get
in touch with them at a later date. Find out the names of the police
officers. Write down insurance information for all the cars and drivers
involved.
Contact your insurance agent. Even
if you were not at fault, your insurance company will need to be
involved in any settlement. Provide your insurance agent with a copy of
the accident report.
See a doctor. If you think you have
been injured, seek medical care. Have a physical examination as soon
after the accident as possible.
Keep Records. Keep copies of all
letters you receive and send, regarding the accident. Keep a copy of the
accident report. Keep track of all doctor visits and medical treatments.
Keep a record of the insurance claim and any forms you fill out for your
insurance company.
Take pictures. Photographs tell
details that are often forgotten. Revisit the accident scene a few days
later, review the site and take a few photos from a safe distance. Take
photos of your vehicle, any injuries of you or your family, and your
recovery.
Call an attorney. Contact an
attorney for a complete analysis of your case. An attorney can help
protect your rights. Call Bryant Law Center at 1-800-LAW CENTER.
