On June 19, 2009 about 1,200 people were evacuated from their homes due to a fiery fatal train derailment. Approximately 600 homes were affected by this devastating event. Canadian National has an unfortunate record of multiple derailments in the Midwest involving explosive chemicals. According to news reports, police alerted the Canadian National Railroad of high water and a possible washout from heavy rains. The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing to investigate the accident and has not issued any preliminary findings. Some Rockford evacuees were allowed back in their homes much sooner than others. If you have suffered any damages (personal or property), injuries or any type of loss, please contact us and we can try to help. Several of our Tamaroa clients who received settlements this fall had also signed railroad releases immediately after the accident. We negotiated a settlement for them, also, greater than what they had originally agreed to with the Canadian National. If you signed a release after the Rockford derailment, we would still like to talk with you. And if you know a neighbor who suffered damages, we are still accepting new clients. Intake forms can still be downloaded from our website. Nearly 100 Rockford evacuees and their families have already sought legal representation with our team. We will be holding our first town meeting in Rockford January 9.
If you would like to speak with an attorney regarding this derailment at no charge to you please call Bryant Law Center at 1-800-455-7838.
