Although it has been known since the mid 2000’s that the FBI used cell-phone microphones to act as a “roving bug” in its battle against the mob, it has only recently come to light that the government – the National Security Agency – is now able to track cell phones even when they are turned off. The Washington Post reported this week that the NSA was now able to track cell phones when they are turned off. Experts say the only surefire way to defeat the new technique is to remove the battery.
