A documentary investigation produced in part by The Weather Channel has uncovered potential health issues resulting from fracking – the practice of injecting fluids into the ground under high pressure to fracture rock and release natural gas and oil. While environmental problems have been suspected from the chemicals being used to force the oil and gas out of the ground, the new investigation appears to show health hazards from air pollution. Oil recovered from fracking already has proved deadly in a series of derailments and fatal explosions from tank car trains. Now comes increased scrutiny on previously unknown air pollution.
