Watchdog consumer group Public Citizen has urged the Food and Drug Administration to impose a black box warning on topical testosterone therapy products often marketed to middle aged men under the mantra of “Low-T.” Offering hope for aging males to restore virility and vitality; experts say more than 5 million prescriptions were filled last year. Now, increasing research shows that patients who use the topical testosterone gel may be at a significantly higher risk for developing cardiovascular problems such as strokes and heart attacks.
