A class action lawsuit has been filed against 10 auto manufacturers saying they ignored a buildup of dangerous carbon monoxide in cars with keyless ignitions. The suit asks a judge to order Toyota, Ford, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Volkswagen, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and Kia to install what it claims is an inexpensive automatic shut-down feature on all affected vehicles.

The suit estimates at least 5 million vehicles are affected. The suit alleges that newer models of the cars have an auto shut down feature but that it was not installed on earlier models with keyless ignitions. The suit alleges that operators of cars with keyless ignitions can exit the vehicle and forget to turn it off. That can cause a dangerous carbon monoxide gas build up in garages attached to homes.

Some reports link at least 13 deaths to the problem.
