Bryant Law Center Files Lawsuit Against Trigg County School Officials Alleging Sexual Abuse of Six-Year-Old Student on School Bus

PADUCAH, Ky. — August 14, 2026 — Bryant Law Center has filed a lawsuit in Trigg Circuit Court on behalf of a six-year-old former Trigg County Primary School student, alleging the child was repeatedly sexually abused by an older student while riding a Trigg County school bus during the 2025–2026 school year.

The lawsuit names Trigg County Public Schools Superintendent Rex Booth, Bus Garage Director Scott Schrock, and school bus driver Holly Schafer alleging they failed to take appropriate action despite prior concerns raised about the child’s safety and seating arrangement on the bus. The lawsuit additionally names the accused minor, by and through his parents, alleging sexual assault, battery, and sodomy.

According to the complaint, the child’s custodian notified the Trigg County school bus garage of concerns about the child being seated with substantially older students. The lawsuit alleges school transportation officials acknowledged the concern and promised to correct the seating arrangement, but the change was not maintained.

Following a report of the alleged abuse on May 19, 2026, Cadiz Police obtained and reviewed surveillance footage from the bus. According to the lawsuit, the older student was subsequently charged by the police with first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree sodomy. The criminal matter remains under investigation by the Cadiz Police Department.

The lawsuit alleges the child has suffered significant psychological and emotional harm and requires ongoing counseling and treatment. The child also withdrew from school for the remainder of the academic year, according to the complaint.

Lawsuit seeks damages as well as punitive damages on behalf of the six-year-old child.

The allegations in the lawsuit have not been adjudicated, and the defendants have the right to respond and present their defenses in court. Because the case involves a minor, Bryant Law Center will not identify the child or provide additional identifying information.
